Pop alchemist Ruairidh Whitmarsh produces playful, funky infusions inspired by everyday encounters 🐝🌱🍞

As a multi-instrumentalist, Ruairidh is comfortable experimenting - creating unique compositions that shift between styles and sounds in seemless fashion. And as a singer and lyricist he grounds his songs in a sense of easygoing fun, echoing the pioneering pop of the Beatles and Beck.

How did you get into music?

I started getting seriously into music when I began attending Paragon’s Play On sessions from 2013-17, where I was learning to play classical guitar, drums, African djembe, and group playing.

How would you describe your work?

I have always had a passion for music and rhythm is my forte, something I really feel!

What’s something people might not know about you?

I'm also a volunteer with Paragon, helping to facilitate group sessions and ensure that everyone is supported as I was when I started out. I would recommend the Paragon experience to anyone. I can say as one of the founding students, what has never changed is the absolute feeling of getting lost in making music and forgetting any problems that I’ve been having outside of the sessions. I let everything just ebb away, and let the sound and feel of the music be all I’m concentrating on while I’m there, which is soooo good! Afterwards I feel much better about everything else.
