Young People 8 - 14 yrsUpcoming projects Tzigane Composer Gareth Williams and Paragon musicians will work with 2 primary schools on a project with the Roma community. Songs of Seals Canadian composer Emily Doolittle will be working with primary schools in Glasgow to write a new piece based on 2 folk tales about seals. Performances will be in Glasgow, Edinburgh and Skye. Make Music Move Following on form the success of last year's summer programme, we will run a week course in creative music and dance for children with disabilities at Tramway from 5th-9th July in association with Scottish Dance Theatre. Most Recent Projects Resounding Lines Children in Drummore School have been taking part in a 10 week music and visual art project with Paragon and artist Alan Young. There was a performance at Drummore School and a performance at the CCA on May 25th 2010 at 1pm. Click on this link to hear the performance http://soundcloud.com/dpadden/paragonccaseagullmix1mp3 Make Music Move In April 2009 three schools in Glasgow took part in music and dance workshops with Caroline Bowditch (Agent for Change, Scottish Dance Theatre). In August, children from those schools rehearsed music and dance for a performance at the Tramway, Glasgow on 7th August. Sounds Like Science This unique Science and Arts project which has been running since October 2008 encourages young people to take a greater interest in Science. 85 students from Milngavie and Hillhead Primary Schools participated in 30 workshops alongside 4 Paragon musicians and drama workers and 5 scientists which culminated in 2 performances. These performances were recorded for dvd at Gilmorehill G12 Theatre in front of a live audience. X-scape 120 Primary School children in Maryhill were given the opportunity of learning how to create and perform their own music based on adventure sports. The 12 week project helped the young people become more aware of the importance of sports activity and how music can give it a sense of fun. They were also treated to a visit to the adventure park X-scape. Young professionals studying music in the community also helped the young people create their own music. A performance was given for parents and families on 19 March 2008 in Maryhill Community Central Halls. Music in Schools Each Spring Paragon’s Creative Director, Ninian Perry, leads an intensive learning module for BMus students at Glasgow University. Thirty P6 pupils are given the chance to create their own musical scores with the students based on their favourite themes e.g. space invasion, Vikings, Romans, Egyptians - anything that fascinates them in their school curriculum. The project culminates in a performance for the rest of the school and family and friends. Young people with disabilities Paragon devised and ran music and movement workshops at the Optimusic Suite at Glasgow’s City Halls which enabled families with children with profound disabilities and their able bodied siblings to enjoy music and movement workshops with trained professionals using sonic beam technology. |
