Paragon Ensemble performed a newly commissioned work by composer Tommy Fowler which was recorded and given to Tigerstyle, one of the UK's most successful hip-hop Bhangra Dj's, to be re-mixed. The music, dance and drama production entertained and informed the audience of the life and works of Rabbie Burns. January 20th, 21st and 22nd 2009. Home from Home Paragon and Pan African Arts Scotland present a series of workshops culminating in a performance at Jewel in the Crown Performances with Paragon and Tiger Style. As part of the Anglo-Sikh Heritage Month Paragon and Tiger Style performed live music inspired by the life of the last Maharajah of Punjab, Duleep Singh. The concerts, which were organized to celebrate the significance of Sikh heritage in the spirits of sound at the teenage fair. Workshops open to the public with sound artist Simon Yuill at the CCA, Glasgow on 28th July from 2pm -5pm. Simon will demonstrate his web-based music programme and give users the opportunity to create their own pieces using a library of sampled sounds which are chosen from a graphic interface. the spirits of sound at the teenage fair. Hanna Tuuliki - Voice, Heather Corbett - Percussion, Simon Yuill - sound artist To use the interactive composition programme go to www.spiritsofsound.info Recording of new commission by Tommy Fowler. Scottish composer Tommy Fowler was commissioned to write a 10 minute piece for chamber group which was recorded at The Music Box, Stevenson College, Edinburgh in June 2009. The piece will now be handed over to Punjabi Dj's, Tigerstyle, who will manipulate the recording and create a new piece. They will give workshops to pupils at Stevenson College during the process and the new work will be played later in the year in Edinburgh and CCA Glasgow. Cove Park Residency with Stepan Rostomyan. The Armenian composer Stepan Rostomyan stayed at Cove Park, an artists residency centre on the West Coast of Scotland, as part of an international residency. He was commissioned to write a piece for Paragon which will be premiered in Yerevan, Armenia in autumn 2009 as part ot the Perspectives XXI Festival. Paragon musicians visitsed Cove Park for 4 days of workshops and rehearsals. An informal workshop was given on 19th September 2008. |
